Man's Man
This discussion came up between two of my friends and me. We where getting our morning coffee and passed a rather metro-male. My friend asked me why all the males of my generation seemed to act like the stereotype image of a gay. I told him it was the style. It was called metro-sexual. He pondered my response for a moment. Then he told me that wasn’t it. It was an attitude, a walk, a way they held themselves. He said they almost seemed weak. So the question came up, with all the cross gender styles and attitudes today, what makes a man and a women?
I like male things. I like quite a few things that could be categorized as very male things. Does that make me less of a female? Am I putting off men because I am too manly? Or is there a delicate balance that allows us to remain feminine while enjoying some masculine qualities. Why as a woman, I judge men to a different standard than I hold myself to.
No matter how I cut it, I like a manly man. I like the tough guy. I like the guy that isn’t pushed around. A guy that knows what he likes and goes for it. A guy that will pull out a chair for a lady, a guy that eats meat and plays cards. I like a man that knows what he is about and why. I like a guy that has a passion for something. I like a guy that I feel safe with, protected and a guy that can open my can of pickles. Sure a ripped body helps, but if it is a ripped body with eyeliner, I think not.
If I have to ask a guy out or take the first step, I already know that I more than likely will not like this guy. I like a guy who takes charge. I also like a guy who is gentle with me. A guy who can fight with his words and not his hands. I like a guy that isn’t intimidated when I get passionate about something. I like a guy who cares enough to get jealous, but knows I would never do something we agreed not to. I also like a guy that will do his hair, brush his teeth and have some sense of some sort of style.
Gosh, am I asking too much?
